C2

1900-1907

C3 Photo [5] from Bruckmann's cabinet card. Postmark date is hard to read, but stamp and undivided back suggest that card was mailed in Germany between 1902 & 1905.
Romania* C4 Portrait [9] from cabinet card by G. W. Bacon & Co. Undivided back on European card suggests pre-1905.
Russia C5 The Elliott & Fry c1880 photo. Undivided back on Russian card suggests pre-1905.
UK C6 Natural History Museum, London. Statues of R. Owen (foreground) and Darwin (background, on stairwell; more recent photo here) are visible. Darwin's statue occupied this prominent position at its 1885 unveiling, but it was moved [10] to a rear hall in 1927, and replaced by Owen's statue.
C7 Rotary Photographic Series issues of H. R. Barraud's c1881 portrait. C7's matte finish and non-international stamp box suggest that it was issued slightly earlier than C8.
